hertel klarhoefer
Hertel-Klarhoefer is a German design studio established in 2001 by Peter Christian Hertel (born 1968 in Wolfsburg) and Sebastian Klarhoefer (born 1966 in Berlin). Both partners studied architecture in Berlin and graduated within two years of each other in the mid-nineties.
With a portfolio that includes industrial, architectural and graphic design the studio has created furniture for the likes of ClassiCon, ElmarFlötotto, Nils Holger Moormann and Kusch + Co.
Noted for designs that combine flexibility and functionality, Hertel Klarhoefer developed the multi-award winning Freddy shelving system for ElmarFlötotto. Using a patented long and short shelf composition, the flexible system can be constructed in a variety of combinations. With a series of add-on boxes, drawers and door units, the system has developed from a bookshelf into a complete storage solution for contemporary interiors. The Freddy family has recently been added to with Freddy Plus.
On recently meeting Sebastian at the Copenhagen Furniture Fair, his dextrous online planning leads us to predict that the studio may have a design classic on its hands.
